St. Stephen's

St. Stephen’s Cathedral is the symbol of Vienna. Construction commenced in the 12th century. Today, it is one of the most important Gothic structures in Europe. During WWII the building experienced nearly complete destruction. Its reconstruction, from 1948 until 1962, proved to be a tremendous communal effort involving the whole of Austria, demonstrating the nation’s eagerness to restore this former symbol of the country’s illustrious past.

A visit to St. Stephen’s Cathedral is a must for every visitor to Vienna.

Hochhaus Herrengasse

The building at Herrengasse 6-8 is another piece of Viennese architectural history. Hochhaus Herrengasse was the city’s first ever “skyscraper”. Clever graduation means that the full height of the building cannot be seen from ground level from any part of Herrengasse. Thanks to its contemporary infrastructure, the building soon became a popular place to live for the movers and shakers on Vienna’s cultural scene, the most famous one probably actor Christoph Waltz.

Wine Tasting

Vienna is the only metropolis that grows enough wine within its city limits to make it worth mentioning. 700 hectares of Viennese vineyards leave their mark on the cityscape and its culture of pleasure. Wine growing has a long tradition in Vienna. White wines are grown in 80 percent of the vineyards, with the Wiener Gemischter Satz being a specialty. A Gemischter Satz is a wine made from a variety of grapes. In contrast to a cuvee, up to 20 different grape varieties are planted in the same vineyard, and harvested and pressed together.
